It has been found, that TREX by default accepts only frames with correct destination MAC address. Such behavior caused issues during SRIOV testing, where MAC address fields are modified by VM. Thus new option to enable promiscuous mode in TREX was created to address this issues. During discussion about this solution it came out, that we are not sure about default behavior of other traffic generators supported by vsperf.
The purpose of this ticket is to investigate all traffic generators and check if they support (with default vsperf configuration) promiscuous mode or not. Based on findings we might extend support of configurable promiscuous mode to all traffic generators (e.g. new item inside TRAFFIC dictionary).
trafficgen | promiscuous mode default status |
---|---|
IxNet | OFF (configurable) |
MoonGen | |
Spirent | OFF (configurable) |
Trex | OFF (configurable) |
Xena | ON |
